If you are a U.S. based 3PL, Air- or Ocean Freight Forwarder, NVOCC, Ocean- Air- or Highway Carrier, U.S. Customs Broker, the chances are that you might loose your business to your competition, if you don't have a C-TPAT SVI number. All major U.S. importers have joined the present voluntarily C-TPAT program, a partnership between the U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) and the private supply chain sector. The new U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Alan Bersin stated: "C-TPAT is due for a relook and a renewal of purpose, and multiplication of the original promise. The former Southwest border coordinator for the Department of Homeland Security acknowledged to reporters during a break that risk management, layered security and separating low-risk and known traffic from that which is high-risk or unknown are not new concepts, but that he intended to develop more robust protocols to realize their full potential.
