The Customs - Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) initiative
is a voluntary Public/Private cooperative program between the US
Customs Service and the transportation industry that is designed to
promote effective security processes throughout the global supply
chain. Every person who is involved in logistics, distribution
or supply chain management will be impacted by ongoing efforts to
create a more secure global trading system.
Currently, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is inviting Importers,
Foreign Manufacturers (Presently only from Mexico), Licensed Brokers, Air Carriers, Sea Carriers,
Rail Carriers, Air Freight Consolidators, Ocean Transport
Intermediaries (NVOCCs or Ocean Freight Forwarders), Port Authorities, and
Warehouse- or Terminal Operators to
participate.
Companies wishing to participate submit a request and a signed copy of
the Agreement of Understanding. The Agreement addresses how the
company and Customs will mutually support each other to improve
security. Then the company submits a detailed Questionnaire, which is
essentially a security "snapshot" of the requesting company. Customs
reviews the Questionnaire, asks for more information, signs the
Agreement, and confirms a company's participation.
One of your Supply Chain Partners or clients
is currently in the process of such certification by the US Customs &
Border Control. As a consequence, your company is encouraged to join
this program, if you are not already a certified C-TPAT partner.
We
ask you kindly to reply to the below questionnaire best possible and
preferable within a period of 30 days from receiving written notice.
Your Supply Chain Partner or client
appreciates your business, partnership and support in this matter, as
we strive towards safe and secure international trade and, indeed, a
safe and secure world.
