U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)

Cargo Security and Examinations

Each year, more than 11 million maritime containers arrive at our seaports. At land borders, another 11 million arrive by truck and 2.7 million by rail. CBP are responsible for knowing what is inside, whether it poses a risk to the American people, and ensuring that all proper revenues are collected.

Working with the trade community, programs like the CSI Container Security Initiative and the C-TPAT Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism help to increase security and safeguard the world's trade industry.

The ACE system is another tool for the CBP to control all import- and export- manifests. CBP automated systems facilitate the electronic importing and exporting of goods. The Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) will become the Single Window - the primary system through which the trade community will report imports and exports and the government will determine admissibility. Through ACE as the Single Window, manual processes will be streamlined and automated, paper will be eliminated, and the trade community will be able to more easily and efficiently comply with U.S. laws and regulations.

Automated Manifest System (AMS) is part of the ACE system as well as the Security filing of ISF 10+2 or ISF-5. The ISF 10+2 is filed by the U.S. Importer of Record while the ISF-5 is filed by the Ocean Carrier.
